The hall wears a festive look for the wedding ceremony – decorated with flowers and lamps. As I walk toward the stage, my eyes take in the brilliant spectacle created by the ladies in traditional silk sarees. I can see almost every shade of the color spectrum.
Then, I notice a beautiful young lady wearing a modern creation. The mustard, maroon and orange kanchipuram saree has classic colours that are perfect for a traditional occasion, but the contemporary touches presented by the paisley inspired hand embroidered zari motifs and the half and half design create an image of elegant modernity.
Around me, I hear some of the older ladies trying their hand at matchmaking. “May be too modern for that,” I think to myself. I can’t decide whether we are all mesmerized by her rare beauty or her saree.
