The restaurant’s air-conditioning is a relief from the sweltering heat outdoors. At the adjacent table, a kitty party is in progress. As I wait for my meal, I watch the group of women in light summery sarees. My eyes skim over the color combinations and accessories, but nothing merits more than a cursory glance.
I hear a collective gasp and turn around to see what caused it. An elegant lady is at the door. Like a refreshing breeze, she floats through the room in a lovely cream colored Matka silk saree with an organza pallu. I notice the woven jute motifs and hints of gold on the pallu and the sequin border on the matching cream blouse.
“You look radiant,” I hear a lady complimenting her as she joins the party. Turning away before I’m caught staring, I can’t help but agree.
